You can open then again in several steps. It depends on who has a strategy.

This is made from monkey pod wood.
Will I be able to open it and put something inside then close it?
Yes, this puzzle is made to be opened and closed repeatedly. You may not be able to put a gift card in it, but something like coins, dollar bills, a necklace, or a ring would fit nicely.
How does this open? When I try seriously and can't.
A side section will be different, which is too tight to remove by hand. If you use a butter knife to pull the piece from the side gently, the end compartment will freely separate from the puzzle.
Does this wooden box come packaged in a box?
Don't pack in the box, but came in an amazon box. Inside the packing box, it was wrapped in clear shrink wrap. If you want a gift box, you'll need to get it separately.
